Everyone notices the walls first

Hand-applied Italian lime, trowel-burnished, made to last. Specified by architects. Proven on heritage and commercial projects.

02 Why Finest Plastering

Five things about us

ILime, and nothing beside it

No general plastering, no skim coats, no subcontractors. The people on your wall do this every working day and nothing else.

IIGenuine lime from Italy

Supplied by Zavorè, who import it. We have used it for years and we know exactly how it behaves.

IIITrusted by architects

Our work is specified on drawings, and includes a Grade II* listed building, which is as high as a listing goes.

IVThree samples, made for you

Your finish, your colour, your wall. You choose from boards you can hold, before you commit.

VFixed, in writing

Every line agreed before we start. The total does not move once it is signed.

04 The process

The order things happen in

Every job runs in the same order, so you know where you are at every point.

Day one

We look

A call, or a visit to the wall. What it is made of and how the room is used decide the system, and we say which before anything is priced.

Week one

The board

Made in your finish and colour, left on your wall for you to live with. You sign it off or we make another. Nothing moves until you do.

Week two

The quotation

Preparation, materials, labour and protection, each itemised in writing. No day rate hiding anything. Agreed is agreed.

On site

The coats

Protection first, dust kept down, then each coat built and burnished to match the board. The site is left clean every evening.

Handover

Done

A walk round together, a note on aftercare, and a wall that keeps hardening for years. We are still on the phone afterwards.

05 The finishes

Six finishes, chosen in your hand

Polished plaster

Lime and marble flour, worked to a mirror. The classic Venetian finish, and the one that shows every flaw in the wall beneath.

Marmorino

A grainier marble plaster, matt or softly burnished. The one most rooms end up with, because it forgives and it lasts.

Microcement

Two millimetres of seamless cement over whatever is there, tiles included. Floors, bathrooms, showers.

Tadelakt

Lime compressed with a stone and sealed with olive-oil soap, as Morocco has done it for centuries. Made for water.

Limewash

A brushed lime paint rather than a trowelled plaster. Matt, cloudy, calm.

Liquid metal

Metal particles applied like plaster and ageing like metal. Bronze, brass, copper and iron.

06 Cambridge

Finest Plastering in Cambridge

We work across Cambridge: the Victorian terraces around Mill Road and Newnham, the grander houses on the west side towards Grantchester, the colleges in the middle, and the new quarter of contemporary housing at Eddington and along the science-park edge. It is a city where the architects are good and the briefs are precise.

In the Victorian stock we work in lime. In the new quarter, polished plaster and microcement are straightforward, and microcement bathrooms in particular suit the contemporary houses. College work we do in lime to a conservation brief.

Everything about how we work — the samples, the fixed price, the six finishes — is on our main Venetian plastering page. This page is about Cambridge.

07 Questions

Common questions

Are you local to Cambridge?
Yes. We work across Cambridge, from Newnham out to Ely and Cherry Hinton, and a job here is planned as a single visit rather than stretched across weeks.
What suits the new houses at Eddington or on the science-park edge?
Polished plaster on a feature wall and microcement in the bathrooms. The new quarter is flat, modern substrate, which is the easiest start there is, and a contemporary house takes a seamless finish well. Access in the city centre is the thing we plan for.
What happens first?
A sample board, made for your wall in your finish and colour, and left with you. Nothing is agreed until you have signed it off.
Is the quote final?
Yes. Every part of the job is on its own line in writing before we start, and the total does not move afterwards.
How long does it take?
A single wall is three to five days, with curing time between coats. A room or a bar is planned as one block and the programme is written down first.
How long will it last?
Decades. Lime carbonates for years, so it hardens with age rather than wearing out, and it does not chip, peel or date like paint.
Do you work in bars?
Yes, and usually at night. Bar fronts, feature walls and dining rooms, protected, finished and handed back before service.
