Materials & partners

Where the material comes from.

Genuine Italian lime, imported directly and tinted to your colour. We tell you exactly what goes on your wall and who made it.

01 The material

Lime, not a lookalike

A great deal of what is sold in this country as Venetian plaster is an acrylic imitation. It goes on faster and it costs less, and it behaves nothing like the real thing: it seals the wall rather than letting it breathe, it will not burnish properly, and it ages badly rather than well.

We work with genuine slaked lime plasters made in Italy. They are breathable, they carry on hardening for years after we leave, and they can be repaired and refreshed rather than stripped out. That decision is made before anything else about a job, and it is often why our quotation looks different from the one next to it.

On your wall

Colours are machine tinted to a specification rather than mixed by eye on site, so the second batch matches the first and a repair in five years still matches the wall.

02 Our sister company

Zavoré

Zavoré imports and supplies the Italian lime plasters, tools and finishes we work with. It is our sister company — which is the reason we know these materials as well as we do, and why we say plainly where they come from.

Zavoré brings the material in directly, holds a colour library with bespoke tint matching, and runs a training academy for people who want to learn the trade properly. Working alongside it means we know how these products behave long before they reach your wall.

For a client that means two practical things. Colour matching is exact rather than approximate, because the tinting is done to a specification we can repeat. And supply is not a lottery: we are not waiting on a merchant who may or may not have the same batch next month.

Where the material comes from

Imported directly from Italy rather than bought off a merchant's shelf, tinted to a specification we can repeat, and chosen for the wall in front of us rather than for what happens to be in the van.

03 If you want to learn it

Training

Small groups, real walls, and enough time on the trowel to leave able to do it. Courses run from our Birmingham studio.

04 Start

Send us the wall

A photograph and a rough size is enough to begin. We will tell you which material the wall actually wants, including when the answer is the cheaper one.
