Paint covers a wall. Plaster becomes one.

I.Finest Plastering

Plaster is not a colour you pick. It is a material you choose.

Lime and crushed marble, pressed on in thin coats and burnished back until the surface closes and starts to carry light instead of reflecting it. That is why a plastered wall reads differently at eight in the morning and at eight at night — and a painted one does not.

IV.The honest comparison

Plaster against everything else you could put on that wall.

Including the row where plaster loses. If you are spending this kind of money you should know what you are giving up as well as what you are getting.

JoinsNone. One continuous surface, wall to wall.None, but patch repairs flash under light.A visible seam at every drop.A visible joint between every slab.
DepthLight travels into the surface and back out.Flat. It reflects light rather than holding it.Printed depth. It does not change as you move.Real depth, and real weight to go with it.
Build0.5 to 3 mm. Sockets and skirtings stay put.Effectively none.About 1 mm.20 mm plus, and it needs supporting.
CurvesFollows any shape, including returns and reveals.Follows any shape.Fights curves and lifts on tight radii.Cut and mitred to size. Curves are expensive.
DamageReworked in place and blended in.Repaint the whole wall to avoid a patch.Replace the drop, and hope the batch matches.Replace the slab, and hope the stone matches.
Wet areasMicrocement is sealed and fully waterproof. Not a long‑term answer in a wet room.Lifts at the edges.Fine, though the joints need sealing and resealing.
LifespanDecades. Lime keeps hardening as it ages.Five to ten years before it wants redoing.Seven to ten years.Very long, if nothing chips it.
The catchCosts more up front and needs a skilled hand. There is no cheap version of it.Cheapest by a distance, and it looks it.Fast and inexpensive.Often cheaper per square metre on big flat runs.

V.How a project runs

From first visit to final certificate.

I.

Visit and fixed quote

We come out, look at the actual wall, and give you a written price that does not move. Free, and no sales visit dressed up as a survey.

II.

A sample in your own room

Made in your finish and your colour, left with you in your light for as long as you need. £100 for the board, charged separately from the job.

III.

One team, one surface

The same hands from first coat to burnish, worked in continuous passes so there is no join. Care sheet and certificate of completion on handover.

Before anything is ordered

You hold the finish before you buy the wall.

Photographs lie about plaster. Light, room size and the colour of your floor all change what a finish does. So we make you a bespoke sample board in your chosen finish and tint, and leave it in your room for as long as you need. Only then do we order material.

  • Made in your finish and your colour
  • Left with you, in your light, for as long as you need
  • £100 for the board — a separate charge, not credited against the job
  • No material ordered until you have signed it off
VI.The specification

What you are actually buying.

The detail an architect or a main contractor would ask for, published up front rather than sent after you have signed.

System
Lime‑based Venetian plaster, marmorino, or polymer‑modified microcement, selected to the substrate and the room
Substrate
Plasterboard, sand and cement render, existing tile, MDF or concrete — each prepared and primed to its own spec
Coats
Two to five, depending on finish. Never fewer than two.
Build
Typically 0.5–3 mm total, so skirtings, sockets and door casings stay where they are
Sheen
From dead matte through satin to full burnish, agreed on the sample, not on site
Colour
Tinted to your reference, including RAL, NCS and Farrow & Ball matches
Protection
Wax, soap or a water‑repellent sealer. Wet areas always sealed.
Cure
Touch dry in hours, fully cured and washable in 7–28 days depending on system
Team
City & Guilds trained and CITB registered
Materials
Oikos and other Italian decorative systems, held to their published data sheets
