A bathroom with no grout lines anywhere. It is the most requested thing we do, and the one most often quoted wrongly.
There are two correct answers for a bathroom and a great many wrong ones. Tadelakt is lime, compressed with a stone and sealed with soap so the surface closes completely; it was made for bathhouses and it is genuinely waterproof. Microcement is cement-based, seamless, and goes straight over existing tile, which is why it dominates in refurbishments. Ordinary polished plaster is neither of those things, and offering it for a shower is the most common mis-sell in this trade.
No grout lines to clean, no tile edges, and walls that run into each other and into the floor as one surface. In a small bathroom that alone makes the room feel larger. The finish is warm and slightly irregular rather than flat, so it reads as a material instead of a product.
Microcement will usually go straight over tile, which saves ripping the room out. The tiles have to be sound and well bonded, and the grout lines have to be filled and reinforced first or they telegraph through within a year. We check that at the survey and we will tell you if the answer is no.
